Municipal Discharge Permit Changes - The City of Lynden
and the City of Everson had their NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge
Elimination System) permits reviewed and revised in 2001. When
the final review is complete, both cities will have a discharge
limit for fecal coliforms of 28 CFU/100mL (CFU=colony forming
unit), a drop from the 200 CFU/100mL that their permits previously
allowed. The City of Ferndale will see the same reduction in fecal
coliform levels when their NPDES permit comes up for review/revision
in 2002.
