The Portage Bay Shellfish Protection District has an Advisory Committee with eleven members appointed by the Whatcom County Council for four-year terms. Two of the eleven members represent tribal interests of the Nooksack Tribe and Lummi Nation. The Advisory Committee was established to advise the County Council on the proposed actions and operations relating to the restoration of water quality in the Portage Bay Shellfish Protection District (Nooksack River watershed).

Meetings
Advisory Committee meetings are open to the public and are held on the last Wednesday of every third month from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Whatcom County Civic Center, First Floor Conference Room, 322 N. Commercial Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Public participation at the meetings is encouraged and welcome.
